Equally at home with Baroque and contemporary repertoire, Swedish Iranian flutist Panak Hashemian is an active musician, performing regularly with chamber ensembles as well as major international orchestras. While studying in Helsinki, Panak held apprenticeship positions with the Helsinki Philharmonic and the Finnish National Radio Symphony Orchestra. She received a coveted position at the Finnish National Opera and Ballet Orchestra before her relocation to Basel, Switzerland.
In 2023 Panak Hashemian founded a new chamber music series in Helsinki: The Imber Concert Series. This initiative seeks to diversify the chamber music concert experience with rotating ensembles as well as combining visual arts and chamber music. The festival also looks to promote new music by Finnish composers. The premiere concert took place in January 2024 including the commissioned work ‘Suite’ for flute and string trio by composer Stephen Webb.
Panak Hashemian recently completed her second Master’s at the Hochschule für Musik in Basel where she received the highest possible marks on her graduation recital. In 2023, she also completed a Master’s at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, during which she received additional tutelage at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris (CNSMDP). Before moving to Helsinki, she studied at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm (BM).
Major professors include Felix Renggli, Sophie Cherrier, Vincent Lucas, Petri Alanko, and Marc Hantaï with whom she did her Master’s minor studies in traverso at Schola Cantorum Basiliensis.
Panak has received scholarships from numerous foundations such as the Royal Swedish Academy of Music, the Swedish Cultural Foundation and Wegelius Foundation in Finland.
